The most important industrial sectors in the Tyrol / Bavaria region

Tyrol

Tyrol is primarily known for tourism, but also has an important industrial base. The Innsbruck area is home to a large number of companies active in mechanical engineering, electronics and medical technology. Tyrol's geographical location, surrounded by the Alps, has led to specialized companies developing mountain technologies, winter sports equipment and cable car technology being located here.

The wood industry also plays an important role in Tyrol, especially in the Tyrolean Oberland. The region is rich in forest resources, which forms the basis for a strong timber industry. In addition, there are numerous small and medium-sized companies in Tyrol that produce highly specialized niche products and thus operate successfully on the international market.

South Tyrol

Munich metropolitan region

augsburg

Augsburg, one of the oldest cities in Germany, is another important industrial region in Bavaria. The city has made a name for itself as a center for mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering and environmental technology. Companies such as the MAN Group and Airbus Helicopters (formerly Eurocopter) have important locations here. The city benefits from its location in the triangle between Munich, Stuttgart and Nuremberg and is an important hub for industrial production in southern Germany. The integration of science and business is also very important in Augsburg, especially through the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences and its practice-oriented courses.

Ingolstadt

Ingolstadt is best known as the location of the automobile manufacturer Audi. The presence of this company has made the city an important center of the automotive industry, with numerous suppliers and research institutes located here. The Audi headquarters is not only a major employer, but also a driver of innovation for the region. The Ingolstadt University of Technology also plays a central role in the training of highly qualified specialists and the development of new technologies in the automotive sector.

regensburg

In recent decades, the city of Regensburg has developed into one of the most dynamic industrial locations in Bavaria. Regensburg is an important location for the automotive and semiconductor industries, with companies such as BMW, Continental and Infineon Technologies operating large production and development facilities here. The city also has a strong IT and electronics industry, supported by close collaboration with the University of Regensburg and the East Bavarian Technology Transfer Institute (OTTI). Regensburg's strategically favorable location on the Danube and the good connections to international transport have contributed to the attractiveness of the location.

Upper Franconia: Bamberg, Coburg, Hof

Upper Franconia is an industrial region that is characterized by its diversity. Bamberg, Coburg and Hof are traditional industrial locations that are particularly strong in the areas of textiles, automotive supply and mechanical engineering. Coburg, for example, is home to companies such as Brose, one of the world's leading automotive suppliers. The textile industry plays an important role in Hof, while Bamberg is increasingly establishing itself as a location for innovative technologies. The region benefits from its central location in the border triangle of Bavaria, Thuringia and Saxony and from well-developed transport connections.

Swabia: Memmingen, Kempten

The Swabia region, particularly the cities of Memmingen and Kempten, is another important industrial center in Bavaria. Mechanical engineering dominates here, complemented by a strong food and packaging industry. Companies such as the GROB machine factory and the Hochland milk processor are based here. Swabia also benefits from its proximity to Baden-Württemberg and Switzerland, which makes the region an important location for export-oriented industry.

Lower Bavaria: Landshut, Straubing

Lower Bavaria, with the cities of Landshut and Straubing as its main industrial centers, has a strong automotive supply industry. BMW operates one of its largest plants in Landshut, where, among other things, lightweight components and electric motors are produced. The region also has a strong presence in the chemical industry, particularly in the production of plastics and chemicals. Straubing has also established itself as a competence center for renewable raw materials, supported by the Competence Center for Renewable Raw Materials and the Deggendorf University of Technology.

Passau

Assau, located on the border with Austria, is another important center in Lower Bavaria. In recent decades, the city and the surrounding region have established themselves as a location for mechanical engineering, the automotive supply industry and the electronics industry. Companies such as ZF Friedrichshafen and Continental operate significant production facilities here. Passau also benefits from its location as a transport hub in the border triangle of Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic, which makes the location particularly attractive for international trade.
